Entwickelt in Zusammenarbeit mit AtelierM transformiert LUISENLINK den Luisenblock Ost in Berlin-Mitte zu einem durchlässigen und resilienten Stadtquartier zwischen Spree, Friedrichstraße und dem Band des Bundes. Das Areal liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Friedrichstraße und zum Spreeufer, ist jedoch derzeit durch Infrastruktur und institutionelle Kanten fragmentiert und als urbane Insel isoliert. Der Entwurf „Vom Band zur Stadt“ etabliert eine klare Nord-Süd-Achse zwischen Schiffbauerdamm und den Stadtbahnbögen, die den Raum als Sequenz urbaner Situationen neu organisiert. Die Stadtbahnbögen werden als gemischt genutzte urbane Schnittstellen aktiviert, während die Gebäudekörper als akustische Puffer fungieren und sich zu Innenhöfen und zur Spree öffnen, wodurch hohe räumliche und ökologische Qualitäten entstehen. Landschaft und Architektur bilden ein zusammenhängendes klimatisches System mit grüner Infrastruktur, wassersensiblen Strategien und durchlässigen Oberflächen, die Resilienz und Konnektivität in Berlin-Mitte stärken. Innenhöfe und Spreeufer werden als öffentliche und ökologische Räume neu interpretiert und fördern Biodiversität, Zugänglichkeit und urbane Kontinuität im Zentrum Berlins.
Developed in collaboration with AtelierM, LUISENLINK transforms the Luisenblock Ost in Berlin-Mitte into a permeable and resilient urban quarter between the Spree, Friedrichstraße and the Band des Bundes. Although located close to Friedrichstraße and the riverfront, the site is currently fragmented by infrastructure and institutional edges, functioning as an isolated urban island. The design “from the band to the city” establishes a clear north–south axis between Schiffbauerdamm and the Stadtbahnbögen, reorganizing the area as a sequence of urban situations. The railway arches are activated as mixed-use interfaces, while building volumes act as acoustic buffers and open toward courtyards and the Spree, ensuring environmental and spatial quality. Landscape and architecture form a continuous climatic system with green infrastructure, permeable surfaces and water-sensitive strategies that strengthen urban resilience and connectivity in Berlin-Mitte. Courtyards and the river edge are redefined as public and ecological spaces, enhancing biodiversity, accessibility and urban continuity within Berlin’s central district.
